Russell's Biggest Weekend Returns
The Rumble in Russell; the biggest weekend on their local calendar, is set to bring the community together for two days of netball, rugby, and whānau connection.
ReSport is proud to support the event through our relationships across Te Tai Tokerau, donating rugby balls, netballs, apparel, and drink bottles to ensure local tamariki and rangatahi can take part with confidence. Our kaupapa remains clear: sport is a right, not a luxury, and every child deserves access.
We’ll also be collecting new and gently used sports gear throughout the weekend at the Nauti Penguin in Russell from Friday afternoon, the Russell Sports Club during the rugby match, and in Paihia at Explore on Marsden Road, keeping more quality gear in play, reducing waste, and reducing barriers to participation.
Saturday’s programme is packed with community energy, starting with the Parly Ferns vs RSC Invitational Netball Match, followed by the U13 Curtain Raiser: Kerikeri Blue U13s vs Ohaeawai U13s (Kick‑off 1:15 PM). The main event sees the Parliamentary Rugby Team take on the Rugby for Life Invitational Team for the Capital Cup (Kick‑off 2:30 PM). Post‑match celebrations continue with a public after‑match function at The Duke of Marlborough from 6:00 PM, followed by netball and rugby trophy presentations at 7:00 PM.
It’s a full weekend of sport, community pride, and giving back — exactly the kind of Northland energy that strengthens connection, builds confidence, and ensures more kids can play.
